Unemployment claims down in Torrington

TORRINGTON - Unemployment claims for Torrington were down with the rest of the state for the two-week period ending April 5, State Labor Commissioner Patricia Mayfield said.
Torrington claims were down 7.8 percent for a total of 1,579 claims. Only 92 claims were for first-time filers. Women made up 29 percent of the total number.
Claims around the state were also down for the past two weeks. Mayfield said the state average was down three percent. Initial claims were up from 3,087 to 3,461.
