SPECIAL WEDNESDAY BLOG:The Apology Heard ROUND The World,Well At Least Litchfield County

I have been reading other blogs round the web and I do see that many do NOT get comments! I mean even super hero blogs.

Should just be happy that I get even one comment a day ,if that I guess?SOME have to even have their comment approved by the author?Guess that makes sense so no terrible words get out there.

Here I have almost let this blog take over my life and why?

I guess it is because I like to try and make people happy!

Thus we come to this blog , calling it the apology heard round the world!

About two years ago, I made a rude comment to the present day Editor Mary Dempsey at the Register. It was wrong of me which cost me the right to pen a Sunday story in the paper.

I have tried to apologize numerous times but to no avail.I have tried to call her many a time.

I am now apologizing to her for any reader to read from Alaska to Ohio via the world wide web.

Mary and I both have a little Irish in each of us though again I made a stupid remark that I should not have, period.

I have enjoyed and do enjoy talking about our town, its people as with all newspapers, the reporters come and go and really never get to know the people nor the town.Being I have lived hear over 50 years gives me a little edge over these fine men and women reporters and know that some people do like what has been written in the past and yes there are some that would prefer not to see me in print. But do not newspapers sell controversy or is it just for the sports?

So Mary, for the world to see, I Michael E. Driscoll do hereby apologize to you for my unkind words and wish you would forgive me!

I end by noting that this blog will now be ONLY Monday, Wednesday and Friday due to work load.AND there will not be a blog THIS Friday as I like many of you will be getting ready for the weekend .

Have a great Memorial Day weekend folks and enjoy life while you can.God willing we will talk next week.I am sure the last thing on your mind is reading what I have to say on Memorial Day?Enjoy the parades though as so many do so much to make it possible!

This column is dedicated to anyone whom, like me, made a mistake, owned up to it and tried to resolve it. Does that sound like someone you know? How about a call Mary or a comment here? How about a second chance?
What do I need to do to have you forgive me for my rude comment which again was 100% wrong on MY part? Michael

micheal, we know you are vocal but and we mean but you mean well for the town you love and even know more people from every part of the Torrington registers reading it would be a sin-for the readers that is- if you were not let back in the paper over a (personal) comment made to a staff at the paper. we at work are spreading the word we would like you back and want to know how it is we can get you back to make us laugh and or cry and write about people whom made our towns better, we love you mike for bad and for good but some of us still like the twisters as well-pam,tom,ronnie and 32 other sales people that do talk and want you back mike in the paper.
Mary
please accept mike as he is and let him only BETTER your paper?

What a joke!
Most business people I know in Torrington do not want to be associated with Mike Driscoll in any way, shape or form.

I know some who have stopped advertising in the Register Citizen for just that very reason. And this blog is just an extention of the newspaper, so that feeling still persists.

Besides being a self-important gadfly, most remember him at his best as "Chicken Man" in his chicken costume stolling Main Street in Torrington. I won't even get into the rest of his "history" that most long-time business people in town know of and remember. And then there is the pathetic need for attention he exhibits.

There are a great many of us that do not want any type of association with him at all. And therefore we do distance ourselves from the Register Citizen and its' staff more than they might ever realize. Something for them to think about.

And by the way, I think that all this anonymous stuff is pathetic, for most of the positive "anonymous" comments here are probably posted by Mike Driscoll himself.

What a joke. This is a truly sad reflection on the Register Citizen, and by association, on Torrington itself. We deserve better.

Let me weigh in for a second as publisher of The Register Citizen.

First of all, when Mike was writing his column, and now as a citizen blogger for our Web site, his opinions are his own, not necessarily that of the newspaper.

Same thing goes for Michael Reagan, Thomas Sewell, Froma Harrop, Ralph Nader and other columnists that run in our paper.

And same thing for our new Sound Off feature.

A big role for the paper is to provide a free-ranging public forum. The point is that if you disagree, you can weigh in with your own opinion, just like this person did with his or her comment.

All of that being said, I can personally say that I'm a fan of Mike Driscoll. I think he's got a heart of gold, and I wish I'd been around to see him in the chicken suit.

golly oppie did Mike piss off an antique dealer or what?

nope they added the words JOURNAL REGISTER to this post so it beams of an employee or the bet is it is a past writer that got dumped aka Paul? or could it be the publicans?

wonder what --history-- this man or woman has?

we would like to ask that person or persons that wrote that to step forward and take credit for their comments and not just hide if they feel mike is just a bad person.

he helped out my children with donations go they could go to camp a few summers in a row and believe he also as served on the board of FISH which is Torrington's homeless shelter.
we are sure this writer who has slammed mike has done so much more for Torrington or whatever cave they live in than mike?
we love mikes stories and will continue to read them. you can tell this person has no friends at all from their last 2 posts,oh well: mike you have been on now for a few weeks and first real dig,CHIN UP and do not let the bastards get you down.brig, pam, deb and the crew and-btw-we missed you selling hot dogs at the parade.must have heard your name 20 times.look forward to many posts and was glad to see you have a fan in Matt, he goes to Rotary I believe.lastly this person who thrashed derenzio has painted him as a new interim publisher. He has been round Torrington since 2004, so this writer knows very little about him and or you mike. take care and while you could have trashed these messages ( i would guess ) you are a bigger man not to have.
p.s. my kids love you, be well

From the woods of Copake New York State, have JUST been sent an e-mail showing me a few clips on the APOLOGY blog which IF I am reading it right, took a turn for the life of me, versus a true apology which what was that was intended for.Been camping since Friday so have not been able to get on line.A T & T not the best in Hudson County.

oh my lands, not sure who this could be? well we have a clue by the "gadfly" term once used by an editor, Paul & Jaye but, oh well, what can you do.Everyone has meaning!
It is hard to type on this blackberry, hope this comment even shows up in that blog?
Today is Memorial Day, a day we honor servicemen and servicewomen alive and the ones that gave the ultimate sacrifice.
I THANK ALL WHOM HAVE COMMENTED AND now time to go to the very short parade and say a prayer to thank all these fine men and women, talk soon,,md

p.s. If i could lower gas buy a buck a gallon, I would wear a chicken suit any day again:-)bawk bawk.

ONE thing is for sure, the person does know how to write but the words JOURNAL REGISTER ( which own the Register ) in their post does not help the post carry that much weight:-)

Understand now why you had to remove the post by the same person where he or she stated the journal register words.

we had it up and agree that should have been removed due to the bad language stated it did though make us take note he or she were out for not just you mike but for matt as well. are you writing on tuesday?
